Stargae Universe, S01E01/02/03 Air

destiny2copy Since they decided to make 3 episodes the first episode, I will comment on the three as a whole.

Basic Premise:  The Stargate has always had 9 lock points.  It was just that most of the platforms that hold the gate, and provide a convenient ramp to access it, result in the bottom two being mostly concealed.

Universe Gate

A basic Stargate address is comprised of 7 “chevrons”.  These depict various constellations, and the initiating gate’s point of origin.

Address Earth’s point of origin is represented by the symbol 600px-0Ega_svg .

At one point during the original series, Jack O’Neil’s brain became overloaded when an alien database downloaded into his brain.  However he was apparently mentally advanced enough to recover make use of both the design for the device known as the “Dial Home Device” or “DHD”", as well as reconfigure the computer they used for a makeshift DHD to not only contain a full list of all Stargates in the galaxy, but to make it so it could add an 8th chevron.  With additional power, the 8th chevron acted like an area code to specify which galaxy the 6 chevrons were relative to.

After the end of Stargate Atlantis, when Atlantis was now on earth, extended research into the ship/computer’s database discovered a 9 chevron address.  With extensive searching and more information gathered from the database, a special planet with a molten “Naquadria” core.  A special Stargate had been built on the planet to access the enormous power of the planet so it could dial the 9 chevron address.

This Stargate not only dialed normal stargates, and in theory the 9 chevron address, but it also had been configured to not accept incoming connections for reasons of “safety”.  If this was in reference to the unstable core of the planet, or just security was not specifically mentioned.  However trips to the planet had to be made in ships.

However, while they could dial normal addresses, they could not get the “power requirements” correct to dial the 9 chevron address.  The answer to the problem was in a formula written in ancient that nobody could figure out.  To try and pull in more resources covertly, and most likely to start helping prepare the world to find out about everything, the Air force created at the inspiration of the daughter of the senator primarily responsible for supporting the project, a online game who’s ultimate level is the solving on the ancient formula.  The gamer that solved the formula, who had to drop out of MIT to help his sick mother, was recruited to go to the planet to help finish implementing the solution.

However when they tried to dial the address, while they got father then they had before, they could not get the final chevron to “engage”".

Later, the base came under attack, and the order was given to evacuate the people in the base through the stargate back to earth.  However the scientist who had been working on the project for years and had dedicated his life to the project, couldn’t let go and just evacuate as he feared he may never get a chance to come back and complete his work.  With some quick thinking, he and the gamer realized that unlike a normal address where the last chevron is the gate’s point of origin, a slight safety feature had been added where the last chevron was earth’s symbol.  The scientist then chose to dial the 9 chevron address not knowing what was on the other side, and because of time, everyone had to evacuate there, taking any supplies (only labeled with barcodes :/) though with them.

It turns out that the address leads to a spaceship called the Destiny on the other side of the universe.  When he ancients created it, they were not aware of the ability to become “ascended” beings of energy on a higher plain of existence.  So as per there scientific and pragmatic nature, they assumed the would continue to expand there explorations from one galaxy to another until they had explored the universe.  So they launched a collection of ships that were fully automated, to explore other galaxies, find habitable planets, and create stargate networks in each galaxy.  They then launched an exploration ship that was also fully automated, to follow behind, and perform more extensive research on each planet.

The ship had apparently been launched between 100,000 and 200,000 years ago.  It uses faster then light travel, but does not seem to use “hyperspace” like later ancient ships, and most other races do.  While obviously well automated, after so long, the ship they found is suffering from significant damage, with the majority of secondary systems not functioning, or operating at reduced capacity, and even primary systems seeming to be on there last legs.

Tau'riStonesDevice The people that came though were not the ones that had been chosen to be the first explorers though, they are just a collection of whoever could get to the gate in time.  With random supplies and personnel, they are now stuck on the other side of the universe as they lack the kind of power needed to “call back home”.  As a helpful plot device however, they did bring 5 ancient communication devices that apparently work without regards to distance by shifting the minds of two people “linked” to two stones between bodies.

In the first two parts, the Senator who was visiting the base was one of the unsuspecting people evacuated to the ship.  However apparently because of the distance, everyone came out of the stargate going a bit faster then when they entered causing many people injuries.  This included the Senator who suffered internal injuries.  He also had a heart problem that required medicine that thinned his blood, which led to a loose loose situation.  Risk death from a bad heart, or bleed to death internally.  When a situation arrived where the air was leaking into space though a damaged section that could only be sealed from the inside of the damaged area, he sacrificed his life for both the people on the ship and his daughter who is one of them, and closed the section off, resulting in him suffocating to death.

Kino Here was where I had one of my first big problems.  By this time, they had already discovered these floating spheres that were given the name Kinos.  The spheres had video and recording abilities, and could be remote controlled.  They also apparently have sensors so that when the ship wanted to explore a new planet, it could send one or more though the stargate to the planet to gather information.  What bothered be, was it just seems so obvious that all they needed to do, since closing the section just required pressing a few buttons, that they could have just taped a pencil onto one, and remote controlled it using it’s camera to punch the buttons.  They could have then simply flew it out of the breach in ship leaking air, and bring it in an airlock.  Or since there seem to be plenty of them, just leave it there.

ConservaDems

conservadem I think that the real existence of the “conservadems” in the senate is purely about them realizing that by forming this micro-third party that can take advantage of a possibly unparalleled situation in the history of the senate.  Right now the senate is right on the fence when it comes to obtaining the supermajority.  Just a few votes either way can tilt things and keep them there.  Partially it is because of the large democratic majority, but also because the republicans have become the party of No.

If the democrats had less seats, a simple 12 people would not have nearly as much weight.  Also if the republicans were not just saying no to everything, then this micro-party also wouldn’t have any to say as more republicans would voluntarily vote with the democrats.

I think the “conservadems” realized that by grouping together, they could get BOTH sides to come groveling to them so they can just choose the best offer.  I think this behavior is wrong, immoral, unethical, and in perfect keeping with this countries' ability to conceive of totally new ways of doing things that at first make no sense at all.  However this is the worst time for American ingenuity to rear it’s head, at least in this area of things, and that it will only lead to causing additional suffering for more people for a longer period of time.

While I can credit them for spotting a unparalleled opportunity when others didn’t, I also condemn them for using it purely to server there own interests when they are in a position specifically intended to be for the interests of all people.

BTW, Thinking about the “conservadems”, I chose while making there new symbol the ass of the donkey and the part of the elephant that as the small brain.

Political Correctness Suffrage

“Basically when someone asks you to do something that makes them feel comfortable but makes you uncomfortable, but is only done because the person asking knows our society requires you to capitulate.”

I like to listen to music and watch TV.  However it doesn’t matter where I am, not even at home, everyone else always complains and wants me to use headphones.  I do so only because I know I will be treated badly by others if I don’t give them what they want for themselves.  However they often freely do the same thing without regards to me.  I should be able to enjoy the freedoms everyone else gets without people looking at me as if I did something wrong.

In order for everyone to enjoy there freedoms, everyone must make allowances and give leeway to each other.  I do all the time, and I almost always try to think of others.  But when I try to take my turn, most other people only show intolerance towards me, and don’t want to limit there own freedom and comfort so I can have a chance.

And if I complain? If I point out to them that they are being unfair to me  by ALWAYS expecting ME to give up my freedoms so they don’t? And especially if I give a good argument?  Then they just end up disliking me for listening freely to what I want to listen to, AND because I didn’t just give them what they wanted.

Like right now.  I don’t care if someone wants to smoke, that is there choice.  And I give them the leeway of me having to occasionally smell the sick smell of cigarette smoke, either as they are smoking or the reeking smell on there clothes as I pass by them.  But when I have to sit day after day by someone that not only comes to work smelling afoul of cigarette smoke, but they then go and “refresh” that smell several times a day without taking into consideration others, then I get ticked cause I know that if I complain to them, they are most likely just going to get mad at me for not suffering in silence.

But if occasionally I play a little music or TV where they can here it, once again I am the bad guy and they are the supposed victim.

Fear

Looking through the history of mankind for many years, as well as watching the current status of humans, I have determined that humans are afraid of the unknown.  While this has also been known by humans for awhile, I have furthered observed that humans respond to fear in a three step process.

  1. Destroy – Using violence (Death/Destruction), oppression (Economical Depression/Social Isolation), or denial (Refusing existence in the mind.)
  2. Control – Using violence (Physical Isolation) or oppression (Legal and Economic Inequality)
  3. Understand – Using education (Self Education/Public Education)

Interesting Term

Thanks to my cute pet doe and wife.

"AIG is the premier example of a zombie company -- kept alive only by $120 billion in federal bailout money. Apparently, it's considered too large to fail."
